This morning before I left my house, I took a minute to look through my ever growing library of books and was struck with the impulse to take C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters” with me.
I am now thankful that I made a point to star the corners of my favorite passages and underline my favorite quotes of every C.S. Lewis book I’ve ever read. While flipping through this highlights this morning I was reminded of how much I loved this book and how big of an influence it had on my writing for the last TREOS record “The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi”. What a great mind this guy had!
Anyways, over the next day or so I will try and post some of my favorite lines or sections. This particular one influenced the writing of a song we called “Saturnus”.
A master demon speaking to his apprentice demon in reference to winning over a human soul: “Hence we always try to work away from the natural condition of any pleasure to that in which it is least natural, least redolent of its Maker, and least pleasurable. An ever increasing craving for an ever diminshing pleasure is the formula. It is more certain; and it’s better style. To get the man’s soul and give him nothing in return - that is what really gladdens Our Father’s heart.”
didn’t love The Receiving End...separately enough… now
